Love–or more specifically, red and pink paper hearts–-are starting to fill the air and the dorm doors here at SCAD Savannah. Valentine’s Day weekend is rapidly approaching. Though the actual Valentine’s Day holiday falls on a Monday, the three days of weekend will be packed with events that will keep everyone busy until the arrival of old Cupid with his hail of arrows on the 14th.
Let’s start on Friday. All those fans of dubstep music better head over to Weston House on Friday night to get a taste of the dynamic duo of Alex Lang and Ross Fish as Bucket Full O’ Click Clack. They will be performing at the Weston Ballroom at 9 p.m. for the Dirty, Dirty Dubstep Valentine’s Day Dance.
Saturday night, Feb. 12, will be in full swing at the River Club. From 8 p.m. to midnight, the River Club will be holding a Vegas Night. There will be free food and cocktails (OK, mocktails), dancing, prizes and, of course, casino games. Come decked out in a dress and suit with a group of friends to enjoy this Vegas-themed night.
Sunday night will be particularly magical night over at Trustees Theater. From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., friends and couples will be sure to enjoy the Savannah Philharmonic’s Valentine’s weekend concert. It will feature passionate and romantic melodies by composers such as Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Piazzolla, and a solo performance composed by Ricardo Ochoa and Brahms. Be sure to take a stop by this concert of pure romance.
Even though Valentine’s Day falls on a class day, during the evening how about taking a trip over to Broughton Street? At the yogurt shop La’Berry there will be a fun evening of karaoke that will include prizes and discounts on yogurt.
Perhaps for Valentine’s Day, some couples would like to sing some romantic duets with one another, but for all those celebrating Single’s Awareness Day (S.A.D.), get a group of friends together and have singing showdown while dining on the great variety of frozen yogurts to celebrate the greatness that is singleness.
Whether one is happily single or romantically taken, there are bound to be many events for SCAD students to take part in this Valentine’s Day (or S.A.D.) weekend.
