He’s got the whole world in his hands

Erik Bendl and his dog, Nice, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of exercising, especially when battling diabetes. His message: “It is possible to be fluffy and fit,” referring to his stocky figure. A six-foot globe that was hand-painted by Erik accompanied the two of them.

The two started their journey from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. this time. In the past, he has started from Kentucky, which he calls home, but now, Bendl starts in different locations along the East Coast. Bendl averages about 10 miles a day, however his best day was along the lines of 18 miles. He said that 18 miles just doesn’t seem fair to Nice.

When asked where he was going, Bendl didn’t have much of an answer. However, he is going to cross into South Carolina whether it is by van or by ferry. He said that if he can’t get over the Savannah River himself, he would have someone take him to his van.

If this happens, he will have to deflate his globe and drive across the Talmadge Bridge. The van is useful for the pair, besides getting them around when tired of walking, Bendl and Nice also sleep in the van. The two will continue walking until March 10, and then they will have to make it back to Kentucky.
