I’m Booked: “Two Nights in Lisbon”

Hello, again! Welcome back to another summer book review! Seeing as many are traveling across the globe for summer vacation, I figured it would be a perfect time to highlight “Two Nights in Lisbon” by Chris Pavone. However, hopefully, your summer vacation does not turn into a mystery novel!

As someone fifty percent Portuguese, I felt obligated to read “Two Nights in Lisbon,” which takes place in Lisbon, Portugal. The book describes Ariel Pryce’s attempt to find her husband after she wakes up to him missing. Alone in a foreign country on July 4, Pryce is put under pressure to unearth her husband’s location. The book simultaneously uncovers Pryce’s past, revealing some surprising secrets.

Personally, I always enjoy a good mystery book. Even though they might seem repetitive, they’re entertaining and usually catch me off guard. “Two Nights in Lisbon” was not my favorite mystery novel, but I still enjoyed it. I felt it was longer than necessary, considering some events happened relatively quickly. However, I was still intrigued by the premise, even if I was not entirely surprised by the twist. It should be noted that this book does cover some intense topics, so please check out the trigger warnings before reading.

Without giving any spoilers, I’ll provide a sneak peek into the writing style in “Two Nights in Lisbon.” Pavone writes, “She hopes that one day this will be a story that she’ll be able to tell when the whole thing has become ancient history. But she doubts it.”

For mystery-lovers, European travelers and fellow Portuguese people, I recommend “Two Nights in Lisbon.” It is a relevant and exciting take on a mystery novel that captivates the audience and keeps you reading. I’ll be back later this summer with another review, but until then, I’m booked.
