It’s not too late to start your New Year’s Resolutions

You just watched the ball drop and felt the urge that it’s time to change some of your not so healthy habits. You tell everyone about how this is going to be your year. But now, it’s mid-January, and some are already struggling to continue their New Year’s resolutions. However, there’s no sense in giving up just yet.

Remember that promise you made to your mom to lose weight after the holidays? Instead of spending your time scrolling through social media, download an app that will help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions. For smartphone users, there are plenty of apps, such as My Fitness Pal, that will help you track your new fitness journey. You’ll be able to see how many calories you have burned and consumed in a day and tips that will keep you motivated towards your weight loss goal. If you need more than an app to hold you accountable, share your progress with your friends. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody.

If your goal is to become more organized, there’s plenty of time left to get on it. Find a planner that best suits your style. If you are just starting out, try to find one with a simple format. Begin by just planning out your due dates for that month. As the year goes on, try to plan each day. Don’t try to color code days or tasks right from the start. Keep it easy and manageable. If you feel making a task list becomes too much of a task itself, you are less likely to make the time for it routinely. Leave a note pad on your desk so you can keep track of tasks from day to day. With a little time, it will feel more like a habit than a chore.

Trying to drink more water? Find yourself a reusable water bottle you bring with you on the go. Also, most of the current fitness apps will keep you accountable for your water intake. Remember, diets are not the key. With any new eating plan you choose to take on in the new year, let it become a lifestyle change. You’re still allowed to eat cookies and candy. It shouldn’t be about what you aren’t eating as much as it about what you are. Focus on making better choices and becoming more aware of what you’re putting into your body. It’s not a competition to see who can eat the most vegetables.

The New Year is a universal time for change. If you didn’t accomplish what you wanted so far, don’t give up. Every day is a chance at a new start; it doesn’t need to be just on Jan. 1.
