This Thursday, actor — and now director and writer — Maggie Gyllenhaal walked the red carpet at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival before accepting the Rising Star Director Award following a screening of her new film, “The Lost Daughter.”
Gyllenhaal’s career has spanned a variety of roles. She’s performed both in comedies and dramas as well as for the big and small screen — even the stage. Her acting has netted her a wide catch of awards, from Academy Award and Emmy Award nominations to a Golden Globe win. “The Lost Daughter” sees her behind the camera as its writer and director for the first time.
Speaking to District, Gyllenhaal stressed the importance of fostering a creative and open environment on set, pulling from her experience on so many. “I think everybody does their best work when they feel seen, and when they feel loved,” she said. “Especially in art, the only good work happens when you’re taking some kind of risk.”
