Mend your rotten Apple [Back-to-School]

All articles in the Back-to-School section can also be found in a printed edition of District. Copies can be found in our offices at the Student Media Center located within Dyson Lab, 231 W. Boundary St.

For the past year, my MacBook has been through the wringer. With its screen littered with dead pixels, a set of broken speakers and an inability to run without a power cord, my four-year-old Mac has been on vacation at tech centers more often than not. Let’s face it, though Apple computers are superior pieces of technology, they do suffer one serious drawback, especially for students here: tech centers are difficult to come by. Fortunately for you Mac users, I have become well-acquainted with our local Apple technicians and now have the ability to share these geniuses with you.

Ex Libris

They are the most convenient for students living above 37th Street who desperately seek someone who understands them and their specific needs. The bookstore offers Mac Protection Plans, advice and help with technical rigmarole and, if worst comes to worst, you can even buy a new computer. For hours and additional information: 912-525-7550.

Computer Advantage

Located at 8108 Abercorn St., Computer Advantage is an excellent local option not associated with SCAD. Though their prices are on par with Ex Libris, the sales staff is nice and usually very helpful. As is standard with many smaller businesses, they seem to pay an almost excessive amount of interest to you and your particular issue, which may or may not help your computer but certainly boosts your self-esteem. Their hours are convenient to students’ schedules and walk-ins are welcome, but they can be consulted via phone at 912-920-3440.

Best Buy

There isn’t much that can be said about this old standby that isn’t already known, understood or available for understanding with a quick visit. The cool part is that if you do decide to receive technical guidance from Best Buy, you get to peruse the $5 CD bin next to the appliances while you wait. You can also compare prices on sweet dryers and margarita machines, which is obviously a luxury unavailable to Ex Libris and Computer Advantage customers. More information is available at bestbuy.com.
