Monster Truck Spring Nationals and Midget Wrestling

On March 3, the Monster Truck Spring Nationals rolled into Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, Ga.

The show started with a wheelie contest that saw Red Solo Truck take home the $5,000 prize.

The four truck field — Shelley Kujat in Shell Camino, Kevin King in Strait Jacket, Bennett Clark in Clydesdale and Brandon Budd in Red Solo Truck — then competed in side-by-side racing. The first round saw Clydesdale defeat Strait Jacket and Red Solo Truck overcome Shell Camino.

Before the final race, radio contest winner, Joe Yatsko, was given the opportunity to drive the legendary Equalizer — whose body was missing due to a crash during the previous day’s event on the straight-line track.

The final round of racing, for another $5,000 prize, saw Red Solo Truck once again triumph, this time over Georgia native and veteran driver, Clark in Clydesdale.

During a brief intermission, spectators were given a rare opportunity, as they climbed into the Shell Camino ride truck and blasted off down the track.

Before the monster truck freestyle competition, fans surrounded a miniature wrestling ring and cheered on athletes from the Extreme Midget Wrestling Federation. The matches saw Little Nasty Boy and his cohorts lay waste to the competition.

The event concluded with the monster truck freestyle contest, this time for a prize of $10,000.

There were some great efforts by all involved, but things really kicked up a notch when both Red Solo Truck and Equalizer — this time piloted by regular driver, Mike Hawkins — took to the track at the same time.

Ultimately, the fans decided that Red Solo Truck was victorious and its driver, Budd, claimed the $10,000 prize, in a clean sweep of the day’s events.
