New coffee shops to perk up this year

The start of 2019 introduced fresh locations to the Savannah coffee scene. This community is already home to vibrant cafe culture, with the downtown area alone boasting dozens of spots. Establishments such as Foxy Loxy Café and Savannah Roasters have refined their knack of drawing regulars back, and thrive thanks to a mix of students and tourists. While there’s nothing wrong with returning to favorites, don’t forget to visit new shops popping up among the local icons. 

Bitty and Beau’s

Located in City Market

Bitty and Beau’s brings more to the table than steaming cups of joe. The family-owned store promotes diversity in the workplace by employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Bitty and Beau’s strives to foster an atmosphere that’s welcoming to everyone, with unique elements that extend beyond their inclusive hiring practices. From a mural-sized world map for customers to pin home, to orders called out with playing cards, it’s hard not to find an aspect to fall in love with.

Brewed

Located near Wallin Hall 

Just a short walk up Habersham Street from Wallin Hall, this new venue offers any kind of beverage, as long as it’s brewed. Drink selections include, but are not limited to, coffee, tea, kombucha, wine and cider. Feeling hungry? Brewed Brews also serves house-made sandwiches, soups, small plates and Auspicious Baking Co. pastries.

Shuga Girl

Located on Barnard between Broughton and Ellis Square

Shuga Girl is where all things sweet take form in confections, coffee and cocktails. This new boutique café specializing in “designer espresso” is a recent addition to restaurants under the Vault’s umbrella. Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seek out Shuga Girl for a mid-day pick me up or an evening sweet. Be sure to bring a camera along; the chic décor creates a perfect setting for Instagram snaps.
