The new MySCAD is a drastic visual change from what non-freshmen may remember. Although this change is aesthetically displeasing, the new Web site introduces a feature-set that proves more useful than its previous incarnation.
Upon first look, the new Web site is confusing and uninviting. SCAD could have easily provided some sort of tutorial, or informational update outlining the new MySCAD features and how to navigate them. The main page no longer offers a default setup displaying what it used to – direct links to Blackboard, student organizations and school contacts are now grouped into the student workspace tab.
Once the user familiarizes themselves with the new arrangement, the Web site still leaves something to be desired. The layout is bland and boring, offering only gradients of gray, and the occasional blue hyperlink.
Aesthetics aside, the new functions MySCAD now offers are a major plus. The inclusion of the ability to access your Dropbox online from any computer is very convenient. The tab system, once understood, makes more sense now – “My Info” now contains functions related to personal information. The network resources bar proves useful as well – knowing how much space you have left is now easily accessible. Also, the flash-based department directory is clean and helpful, and makes accessing your professors much easier.
Despite the new MySCAD’s poor aesthetic and uninviting main page, the new features make the change worth it.
