Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are watching how bicyclists make their way through Forsyth Park and are leveling heavy fines on those that do not follow the rules.
The Savannah bike laws state that cyclists must walk their bikes on the multi-use path around the fountain south to the old fort area where the Forsyth Café and playgrounds are located. Cyclists, then, are relegated to the periphery sidewalks around the park, along Gaston, Whitaker, Duffy and Drayton Streets, which are narrower and put bicycles in conflict with runners and dog walkers.
Bicyclists also are prohibited from riding on the sidewalk on Broughton Street from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Lincoln Street, as well as through the town’s squares.
