From 6 to 11 p.m., Sept. 8, Broughton Street will be hosting Savannah’s inaugural Fashion’s Night Out, an event that began in New York City in 2009 as a way to spark consumer confidence during an economic downturn.
For Fashion’s Night Out, Broughton Street will become pedestrian-only, allowing room for shoppers to mix and mingle and enjoy musical performances, art installations, local designers and a fashion show set on an outdoor runway.
Parking will be free at the Civic Center lot and a flat $2 fee at the Whitaker, Bryan and State Streets parking garages. A special fee trolley route will be providing easy transportation for the event with stops at the Civic Center; the corner of Whitaker and Jones Streets, Whitaker and York Streets, and Bull and State Streets.
The Broughton Street closure begins at 3 p.m., spanning from Montgomery to Drayton Street. All on-street parking on Broughton Street must be cleared by 3 p.m. Vehicles remaining after 3 p.m. will be subject to being towed at the owner’s expense. Whitaker and Montgomery Street will remain open.
