News brief: Child’s Big Wheel keeps on rolling after collision

The Major Accident Investigation Team of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) is investigating a traffic accident in which a young boy was hit on June 7.

Kenneth Roberson, 11, was diagonally crossing the intersection of Live Oak and East Waldberg streets on a pink push scooter when he was struck by a black Honda traveling west on Waldberg.

The driver of the Honda, Stephon Jamon Ferguson, 25, initially stopped but soon drove off after a vocal crowd gathered. A few blocks away, he found a police officer and reported the accident.

The child was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he was treated. His injuries were not life-threatening, but he was admitted for overnight observation. Ferguson was taken to SCMPD headquarters where he was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
