Lorena Cuevas, a senior fashion student, and Marlow Larson, a 2011 fashion graduate, are finalists in the 2011 Supima Design Competition to be held Sept. 8 during New York Fashion Week.
Lorena and Marlow will be competing against six other finalists, two each from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute and Rhode Island School of Design. Each competitor received Supima fabric with the instructions to produce a collection of five evening wear looks. Supima is a non-profit brand that promotes 100 percent U.S.-grown pima cotton for apparel and home fashion industries. The organization is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The eight finalists were chosen from 300 graduating seniors from all four design schools. The winner of the Supima competition will be announced at the fashion show where he or she will receive a prize of $10,000 to help advance their fashion career.
