News brief: Gov. Deal legalizes Sunday sales of alcohol

Gov. Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 10 into law on April 28.

The bill allows counties and municipalities to hold referendum votes to determine whether or not retail sales of alcohol will be permitted on Sundays. In communities where it is approved, retail stores will be allowed to sell alcohol between 12:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Georgia is the 37th state to authorize Sunday sales of alcohol. Chatham County is among the counties expected to put Sunday sales to a vote this November.
