News brief: Increase in counterfeit bills

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police have issued a warning to business to be cautious in accepting cash. Sgt. Keith Edwards of the SCMPD Financial Crimes Division said counterfeit bills have increased nationwide. Businesses in this area are plagued with counterfeit $5, $10 and $20 bills.

If businesses suspect they are being given counterfeit bills, they should call the non-emergency number at 912-652-6500 and ask the customer to stand by until police arrive.

Counterfeit bills have been used heavily near Skidaway Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. However these fake bills have also shown up in businesses from Wilmington Island to Georgetown.
