News brief: Police hold second Run to Remember

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Patrol School Class will conduct their second Run to Remember memorial run on July 28. The run will honor officer Mark A MacPhail Sr. and all 57 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty in Chatham County.

The run occurs during the Patrol School trainees’ 17th week of training. After undergoing weeks of book work, hands-on training and physical fitness training, the Run to Remember is meant to remind trainees of the ultimate sacrifices that many have made in serving and protecting their communities.

Runners will stage at 9 a.m. on the north end of Forsyth Park near Gaston and Bull Streets. The run will begin at 10 a.m., proceed north on Drayton Street and then west on Oglethorpe Avenue. The run finishes at 610 W. Oglethorpe Ave. where, on Aug. 19, 1989, Officer MacPhail was shot and killed working off-duty.
