News brief: Savannah police seek 18-year-old for robbery

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) has issued robbery warrants for Charles Christopher Johnson, an 18-year-old Savannah man sought for the robbery of Parker’s convenience store at 2004 Beech St.

SCMPD investigations point to Johnson as the man who robbed Parker’s on Aug. 26. The suspect reportedly forced Parker’s 20-year-old clerk to open the cash register and then the office safe for its contents. When a customer came in, the man laid down behind the counter and pointed the gun at the clerk to keep quiet. After the customer left, the suspect grabbed two cartons of cigarettes and ran from the store.

On July 18, Johnson was released from the Chatham County Detention Center after serving four months for criminal trespass at the Montgomery Crossroads Walmart store in March. In 2010, he was banned from all Walmarts after being arrested for shoplifting at the Wilmington Island store on U.S. 80.

Anyone with information on Johnson’s location or the robbery is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
