*Disclaimer: District staff did not actually speak with Mr. Phil himself, this is a comedic piece about some real concerns in our country. SCAD District has no offiliation with Punxsutawney Phil or his team whatsoever.*
A couple of weeks ago I sat down with Punxsutawney Phil for a deep dive into his controversial reputation. While he didn’t divulge much information, the interview was cut short when Phil became emotional, and his agent stepped in. Today, I’m sitting down with Phil again.
Olivia: Thank you so much for giving me the time to speak with you again. How are you doing? The last time we chatted, things got a little heated.
Phil: I am doing good, much better! I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to come back.
Olivia: So, what’s been going on since we last spoke?
Phil: Well, I actually have some news. I’m taking a vacation! I realized after my meltdown a few weeks ago that I need to allow myself to rest so that I can put my best paw forward.
Olivia: I’m so happy to hear that! That’s wonderful.
Phil: Thank you. Not enough people talk about the stress of being a famous animal. In fact, my friend Moo Deng is joining me on vacation. She was thrust into the spotlight at just one-month-old. No one teaches us how to navigate this world of fame, so we have to stick together.
Olivia: I love that you’re turning to the community for support.
Phil: I am! Chosen family is so important. And look, to set the record straight, I appreciate all my representatives in Pennsylvania. I just needed a break.
Olivia: We all need a break sometimes, Phil! What do you have planned for vacation?
Phil: Cancún. People think groundhogs don’t like the beach, but you’d be surprised! Moo Deng and I plan to suntan, swim, and relax.
Olivia: I’m happy for you.
Phil had to go shortly after this to pack for his vacation. He carried himself with a much lighter demeanor since the last time I saw him, as if a weight had been lifted.
