Puzzles provide relaxation and a break from screens

Since quarantine started back in March 2020, puzzle sales have gone up significantly. It has become a peaceful activity for people of all ages to do safely at home. On top of being a good activity for relaxation, getting to finish a 1000+ piece puzzle is an extremely satisfying task. Many of the students at SCAD love puzzles, including my model Sophie Berner. She says that her and her roommates keep a puzzle going on their dining room table at all times. Since puzzles began growing in popularity, new puzzle companies have been popping up this year, creating super cute and unique puzzles.

Forget your grandmas’ old puzzles; say hello to fun and artistic puzzles! For this photoshoot, I bought a puzzle from Piecework Puzzles, a company that is dedicated to quality time in the great indoors. Their products are an antidote to obsessive work culture and an addiction to screens. Piecework, like many others, sees a way to self-care through puzzles. My photoshoot is inspired by their puzzle “Life of the Party.” This colorful puzzle shows a person grabbing a handful of cake while surrounded by party decorations. I wanted this editorial to be exciting, vibrant and filled with childlike wonder. I hope you feel a part of the party too!
