Cyclists, who ride their bicycles south on Lincoln Street, toward Wallin Hall, are elevating their chances of being hit by a car. According to the Georgia Bicycle Law Enforcement Pocket Guide, riding against traffic increases a cyclist’s risk of being hit by a motorist by two to four times because “drivers entering and exiting the roadway at side streets and driveways do not expect bicycle traffic to approach from the wrong direction.” A cyclist hit while riding the wrong way on Lincoln Street will likely be found at fault by police, as riding against traffic is against the law. Wrong-way cycling also endangers pedestrians and other cyclists. To download a copy of the Georgia Bicycle Law Enforcement Pocket Guide, click here.
