The city of Savannah received a belated Christmas present Wednesday, Jan. 3 when it began snowing and sleeting throughout Coastal Georgia. According to weather reports, the region has not seen more than an inch of snow in nearly 30 years.
The actual snowfall ranged from 2 to 4 inches, according to weather officials. The National Weather Service in Charleston, South Carolina reported that black ice will be the largest issue in the coming days.
Thursday forecasts predict a high of 42 degrees and a low of 21 degrees Fahrenheit, and Friday, Jan. 5 is expected to reach a high of 41 degrees with a low of 27 degrees on Saturday, Jan. 6.
SCAD Savannah issued an email Thursday morning stating SCAD buildings would be closed Friday due to weather conditions. The university also closed Wednesday and Thursday in anticipation of a winter storm watch, which took effect in Chatham County Tuesday, Jan. 2.
