Savannah updates street sweeping schedule

Along with the parking changes already taking place in Savannah this month, the city announced updates to the street sweeping schedule.

According to a press release issued by the city of Savannah today, January 15, the schedule has changed to eliminate street sweeping on Friday and Saturday nights. “Increased parking demand in the downtown area on weekends has resulted in a growing volume of requests and complaints for modification of the City’s street cleaning program,” wrote Director of Public Communications Michelle Gavin in the press release.

These changes were approved by the Savannah City Council in October 2017 and will be officially put into practice tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Savannah’s Sanitation Department has already updated all of the signs throughout the city to reflect the new street sweeping plan and will be ticketing parked cars according to the new Monday through Thursday schedule.

Street sweeping occurs with different frequency throughout the city, either weekly, biweekly, monthly or quarterly, depending on the area. The Street Cleaning Department sweeps approximately 36,000 miles of Savannah curb annually.
