This year’s de:FINE Art, the ninth of the program, will feature Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller as honorees.
The kick off for the event will be at noon at the north end of Forsyth Park on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and will feature a public performance of the most recent work by artist Pia Camil, “Fade Into Black.” The press release for the event states “the installation is the latest and largest iteration of her ongoing interest in T-shirts as repositories of cultural information. Specially commissioned by SCAD Museum of Art, one colossal mass made of more than a thousand repurposed T-shirts stitched together, hangs from the ceiling as a soft sculptural work.” Volunteers may participate in the performance by collectively wearing the garment.
Later that evening, at 6 p.m. at the SCAD Museum of Art, visitors may attend the opening reception and explore many of the featured exhibitions of the program.
The honoree keynote lecture by honorees Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller will be held the following night at 6 p.m. at the Trustees Theater. An hour later, across the street at the Gustein Gallery, the reception for the group exhibition, “Alter Ego,” will begin, which will include a performance by performance art group Glitter Chariot.
On Thursday, Feb. 22, co-founders of Art Reoriented Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath will give a presentation about their recent projects and about adapting curatorial methodology and content. Their lecture, “Ways of Seeing: Insights into Curating,” will take place at the SCAD Museum of Art Theater at 5 p.m.
