For dorm-dwelling students who are required to have meal plan, you may be wondering if there is anywhere else besides J.O.’s at Oglethorpe House and Café SCAD down by Weston that take meal plans. Fortunately, there are quite a few SCAD-run places around the city that accept our meal plans, and they have a few more options over what you may find at the usual cafeterias.

Bobbie’s Diner is located across from Anderson Hall. It’s a old fashioned diner-themed restaurant. They offer breakfast and lunch options. They’re open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Fridays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There is also Streamliner Diner, which is on Barnard Street across from Eckburg Hall. This is, as the name implies, another diner-themed eatery, however they are only open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The place most new students end up discovering last, unless you have a class at Montgomery Hall, is Byte Café and the Einstein Bagel shop. The bagel shop closes after the morning classes, however Byte Café has some of the latest hours compared to the other eateries. They are located inside Montgomery Hall and are open Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There are also shops inside the Turner House complex that accept meal plans and dining dollars. Both are open until midnight. There is also the Coffee Shop inside the Student Center, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The space formerly used as the Turner House meeting room will soon make the transition to become another SCAD Dining option. Curtis Bolden, the General Manager for SCAD Dining, comments that the contracting crew is “working around the clock” and the Pizza Shop at Turner House is braced for opening within 24 hours after September 15. Open Mondays through Thursdays from 4pm until midnight, and opening an hour earlier on weekends, the Pizza Shop is poised to be another late-night favorite for hungry students, offering traditional 18’ pizzas and five dollar “flatbread” style pizzas for health-conscious students on a budget.
