SCAD hosts SCADDYs this month

SCAD will host the 2010 SCADDY Awards Friday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. in the Trustees Theater at 216 E. Broughton St. The SCADDY Awards honor excellence in advertising and the related fields created by SCAD students.

Students from 10 different majors, including advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography and animation, were challenged to work independently or in a collaborative effort to produce branding and advertising pieces in a number of categories. These categories include: graphic elements, such as logos and mastheads; advertising campaigns, such as magazine and online ads; electronic outreach, such as television and radio ads; and visual elements, such as photography and animation.

Five advertising professionals from Atlanta: Bart Ingram (Razorfish), Carl Warner (CD/Principal JWT Atlanta), Eddie Snyder (The Morrison Agency), Elise Thomason (ACD Iconologic) and Ken Young (Prat-Buehl) have reviewed the more than 1,500 submissions and will present awards in 26 categories at the ceremony. SCADDY Award-winning work goes on to be entered into the ADDY Awards, one of the advertising industry’s largest international competitions.

“The SCADDYs celebrate the best of the best – the top 5 percent of all entries created by SCAD students in 2009,” says Stephen Hall, Chair of Advertising at SCAD. “The talent, creativity and craftsmanship shown by these future creative professionals is world-class.”

In anticipation of the award ceremony, more than 100 of the top student submissions will be displayed from Jan. 21- 29 at the SCADDY Awards Exhibition in Alexander Hall Gallery at 668 Indian Street.

Admission to both the exhibition and the award presentation is free and open to the public.
