The SCAD Open Studio returns Nov. 5 and can be attended both online and in-person at Alexander Hall on the Savannah campus and at 1600 Peachtree St. NW at SCAD Atlanta. The event is hosted by SCAD Art Sales and will feature work from students in ceramics, painting, sculpture, photography, fibers, illustration and more from their personal studios. All work on display will be available for purchase until Open Studio ends Nov. 7.
“Open Studio is an event that represents our continuing commitment to supporting and elevating the creative voices in our communities,” said Victoria Gildersleeve, associate director of SCAD Art Sales. “In this online iteration, Open Studio enables patrons around the world to shop for original SCAD artwork by talented artists among our students, alumni, and faculty. SCAD continues to provide an education of unparalleled excellence for fine artists, and Open Studio remains an important part of that mission.”
The event is open to everyone regardless of vaccination status with no fee for entry. All patrons attending the event in person must be wearing a mask at all times and temperature checks will be performed upon entering. The rules mandated are in accordance with the CDC guidelines made to deter the spread of COVID-19.
Students are encouraged to attend the Open Studio and support their fellow students, either through purchasing the work on display or interacting with the artists on the floor. The Open Studio only happens once a year and this is one of the first events held in-person since the lockdown caused by the coronavirus. This is a great opportunity to make friendships with fellow artists across a variety of departments at SCAD and connect with the alumni, businesses, and organizations in attendance. The Open Studio is an event to enrich the artistic spirit and encourage inspiration and it would be a mistake to miss it.
