SCAD’s Performance Ensemble (PE) will perform Sunday at the Forsyth Picnic in the Park.
PE will be performing three songs alongside SCAD Drumline. Jesús Pineda will be singing a solo during “Say (All I Need)” by OneRepublic.
Pineda, a third-year architecture major from Honduras, said he is very excited for the public nature of the show, as PE normally only performs for a SCAD based audience. “This is the reason why I came here, so I could sing as well as doing my major.” Pineda said. “The cool thing about PE is that it’s not just the performing arts department…it’s full of people who really just love to perform.”
Along with other schools from the Chatham County area, PE was approached by the Picnic in the Park committee for the performance. Their set list also includes “This Love” by Mear and “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele; Mary Grace Stasser and Sandie Lee are the other Performance Ensemble soloists for this show.
The theme of this year’s Picnic in the Park is “Under the Stars and Stripes.” “It’s all very American,” Pineda said, laughing, “we’ll be wearing patriotic colors!”
Pineda explained that PE meets twice a week for two and a half hours, just like a class. They held an additional rehearsal for this event, to practice with the drumline. Pineda mentioned that this is the first time PE and Drumline have performed together in many years, at least since before his time at SCAD.
“It really gives it something else,” he said, “It’s very exciting, to hear how it sounded in the tiny room and to imagine how it will sound in Forsyth. It’s going to be very, very cool.”
It is PE’s first performance of the school year, making it a very public initiation for new members. Picnic in the Park will take place from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on October 2 and will also feature musical performances from the US Army Band and the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra. Performance Ensemble is set to perform at 4:45.
