SCAD still in Target’s sights

Despite announcing in mid-January that Target would be pulling out Canada, closing its 133 stores and laying off more than 17,000 employees, the retail giant may still be a prominent visitor to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“We have not announced any changes or plans related to hiring in the US following the company’s decision to end Canadian operations. It’s worth noting that the vast majority of our team in Canada were Canadians,” said Molly Snyder, Public Relations Group Manager for Target, in an email.

The company has frequented SCAD for portfolio reviews, employer presentations and recruitments events.

“Target recruits from many SCAD disciplines on an ongoing basis,” said Kimberly Lopez, Executive Director for the Career and Alumni Success office of SCAD in an email. “Target most recently recruited on campus in fall 2014 to interview for summer 2015 internships in graphic design, product design and development (apparel/accessories, home/hardlines and textile/graphic/surface), user experience and copywriting.”

A quick LinkedIn search shows that Target has hired more than 30 SCAD students or alumni for design roles.
