The annual SCAD de: FINE ART program will feature Lawrence Weiner as the honoree this year.

The first event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Gutstein Gallery. The gallery talk, “News from Nowhere,” will feature Susan Hopp, Katie Parker and Jordan Tate. The exhibition will include sculptures, game design, photography and paintings.

Later that night, at 6 p.m. in the SCAD museum of Art, the de:FINE ART opening reception will take place. For the tenth annual opening, artists such as Alex Gardner, Ania Catherine, Monica Cook and Dejah Ti will be exhibited.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. Pedro Reyes will present his “Manufacturing Mischief” puppet theater play. He will explore the ideas of artificial intelligence, technology and political climate in the play. Following that night, at 8 p.m. in the SCAD Museum of Art, SCAD alumni BOSCO will perform a set that will include her soundscapes and video projections by Emeka Alams.

Honoree Lawrence Weiner will hold a lecture on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Lucas Theatre. Known for his use of text within his art, Weiner will discuss his conceptual art and how it has grown since the ’70s.
