Speakers to discuss ‘Legacy by Design’ at this year’s TEDxSavannah

On Friday, May 11, TEDxSavannah will host its first conference at its new location, the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center.

The theme this year is “Legacy by Design,” and will include presentations by fifteen featured speakers about the intended benefits of planning a legacy and the unintended consequences of inherited legacy. TEDxSavannah is part of a program of local, self-organized events created in the TED spirit of ideas worth spreading.

This shift in venue from the previously-used Jepson Center for the Arts is meant to accommodate a larger audience and will now allow parking, a catered lunch and an on-site reception, all of which are included with the purchase of ticket.

Audience members will be able to take in views of the Savannah River and the historic downtown while listening to talks in the Oglethorpe Auditorium at the Convention Center.

This year’s speakers include:

  • Amy Paige Condon: former editor Savannah magazine, award-winning author
  • Betsy Dominguez: medieval iconographer, SCAD art history professor
  • William Gladden: retired attorney, mediator and DNA sleuth
  • Ravi Gondaliya: aerospace engineer, Toastmaster
  • Cynthia Harbor: award-winning tech professional, STEM advocate
  • Amanda Hollowell: small business entrepreneur
  • Max Howell: developer of Homebrew, open source software used by an estimated 50 million people

  • Alicia Scott: marketing strategist, social activist
  • Joseph Wadas: hospice chaplain and wedding officiant
  • Julie Wade: director of Park Place Outreach youth emergency shelter and community volunteer

The day’s schedule begins with check-in and breakfast, starting at 7:15 a.m., followed by the first sessions of talks at 9:15 a.m. Afternoon sessions will resume at 2:15 p.m. after a break for lunch. Snack breaks will be provided in the middle of each session. Attendees are invited to stay after sessions for an after party from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased here.
