To the Editor,

I wish to thank you for printing student opinions in the Letters to the Editor, especially in your April 4, 2008 issue, where Ms. Perez expressed outrage at a special Comixstravaganza edition of the comic strip “Nathan Pretzelberger.” This letter was quite possibly the most hilarious—and hypocritical—thing I had witnessed that week. Instead of wasting breath feeling offended at what is the wittiest, most well-thought-out comic strip in the District — which was obviously making a huge exaggeration of the religious extremism pervasive in certain areas of the Bible Belt — Ms. Perez should perhaps direct her outrage at the “narrow-minded messages of bigotry” currently being spewed by leaders of the homophobic religious movement against gay rights; or those of the misogynistic ‘pro-life’ movement.

The character of “Prolife Jenkins” was extremely well executed, and the strip’s ending contained a very entertaining twist. I am just as positive that I am not the only person who shares this view and would demand that Mr. Klunk does not for one second consider apologizing for his art. I certainly hope the District continues to allow students a censorship-free outlet to publish content.
