Every February, we celebrate Black History Month. This year, students answer the question, “What does Black History Month mean to you?”
“It’s being able to show homage and to go back and look at how the culture changed and all it has been through and all it has to look forward to. Just being to go and show love for the culture.”
Jevauhn Garcia, freshman, Film and Television
“I’m black 24/7, but black history to me means remembrance, giving thanks. It is making sure everyone knows that without black people in general what would America be? We built it. Black history means that we can look at the past, but also go towards the future and build upon what our ancestors did for us. It is making sure we don’t forget where we came from, it is bringing the people you grew up with with you towards the better future. It is black excellence.”
Makeda Goss, Junior, Fibers and Historic Preservation
“Black History Month means celebrating the sacrifices of black people who have paved the way for me to be where I am and also acknowledging them every day.”
