Sunday Supper is an initiative started by the J.O.’s Rations staff members at Oglethorpe House in efforts to bring students together. With homestyle cooking and a goal to create a welcoming, loving environment, they encourage students to come out every Sunday at 6 p.m. to enjoy amazing food and wonderful people.
Tess Maureen Brice, SCAD staff member and one of the many brains behind Sunday Supper, revealed more about this remarkable program. Brice was ecstatic to explain why they decided to start up this homestyle event. “SCAD came up with the idea to do something that would get the students to interact with each other and give them something to make them feel kind of homey if they’re missing being with their family on Sunday dinner,” Brice said. “You’ll get a chance to meet someone you wouldn’t ordinarily meet, you may see them just passing by but you get to sit at the table and everyone’s engaging in conversation so you find out a little about this person and a little about that person that you wouldn’t normally be able to do.”
When beginning this project they had one main goal in mind. “Our main goal behind Sunday supper is to get everybody to interact with each other. Hopefully give them something that they are missing from home, like their family, cause everyone here at school and this is your family. We want everybody to just come and enjoy each other,” Brice said.
We encourage students to come out this Sunday and every other Sunday to enjoy each other’s company and the homestyle food that Brice and her co-workers prepare. As Brice said, “if we don’t have enough room we’ll pull in more tables so you’ll have more room.”
