Supplies
As a freshman, you’re going to need art supplies. Foundations courses start with you loading up your Artbin. Thankfully, Savannah welcomes the art supply shop-fest. The school’s store, Ex Libris, is convenient, there are other stores around town as well that you can sometimes get a better deal from.
Primary Art Supply located on Broughton St. usually has the better deals on your basic supply needs, charcoal, brushes, pastels, etc. Professors can also send requests to the store telling them what people need for their classes. So it’s always a good idea to double check prices between the two stores and check with your professors, they might know which one has them for cheaper.
The other supply option downtown is Bull Street Station, which offers more supplies for architecture students and has a good variety in papers and canvas. They are located on the corner of Bull St. and Oglethorpe Ave.
The one last option that might have the smaller lines first week of school is the Michael’s located past the Oglethorpe Mall on Abercorn St. The only issue there is the staff usually isn’t as knowledgeable as at the smaller stores downtown, and they usually don’t have the higher quality goods you might need for upper level classes. However, if you just looking for some cheap sketch books and basic supplies, they probably have them.
Usually comparing prices between all the stores is the best bet, and if you have the time, online stores can be even cheaper, but you would have to place your orders fairly early to get everything on time for school.
