Screening for the first time Thursday, Oct. 28, “Surviving Clotilda” tells the story of the last slave ship to reach America and the incredible resiliency of those onboard. This project was developed in collaboration with SCADpro, the city of Mobile, Ala. and Visit Mobile

Recent SCAD alumni, Kathryn Jamieson and Olivia Grillo, and fourth-year film and television student, Rachel Taylor, walked the red carpet alongside other producers and directors. “To be a current student in my last year, this is an experience like no other,” Taylor said.

After two quarters of work, the team is very excited to see their film premiere at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. “This is almost a sacred celebratory time to come together and recognize all the hard work and bug bites and sweat,” Jamieson said.

During the process of creating “Surviving Clotilda,” the SCADpro team worked closely with the city of Mobile, Visit Mobile, as well as descendants from the Clotilda slave ship. “We had the best client in the world. From the moment we met them, they were family,” Grillo said. “And they were just not clients, they were collaborators.”
