The Butcher tattoo shop and art gallery is seeking submissions to be displayed at the upcoming Savannah Tattoo Festival which will be held April 15-17 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. This is the first festival of it’s kind in the area, and is being organized by Mike Cann and Nate Hudson from Folk City Tattoo.
Jenny Hawkes, the director of the gallery, has expressed her enthusiasm for the event over a series of online messages.
“The fellas that are putting on the Savannah Tattoo Festival — Mike Cann and Nate Hudson from Folk City — have asked me to find 20 SCAD students to receive free artist spaces at the upcoming convention,” said Hawkes. “This is to give students the opportunity to show [and] sell their work, and also to encourage SCAD family and friends to attend the convention.”
Like other tattoo conventions held around the country, this one will feature some tattoo artists from all over the country as well as the local shops in Savannah. Attendees will be able to receive tattoos and piercings from their favorite artists, and there will be entertainment.
“There will be a circus sideshow, the Sweet Tease will be preforming, there is live painting and a pin-up girl contest. People will be getting tattooed and pierced, and all kinds of crazy stuff goes on!”
This is the first event of its kind in Savannah, and Hawkes expressed feeling that this opportunity has been long overdue for artists.
“This is a fun and fast-paced environment and a great networking opportunity for artists from all walks of life. Tattoo conventions are a blast, and I’m really excited to get SCAD students involved in this one.”
The deadline to submit is Monday, March 14. If you are interested in submitting your artwork, email your inquiries to Jenny Hawkes at thebutchergallery@gmail.com.
