Have you ever felt trapped in a dark place and completely alone?
I have, on the SCAD silver bus at Boundary Hall. After waiting about 20 minutes, I was ecstatic when I saw the silver bus slowly pull up to Keys Hall. I quickly hopped on, put on my iPod and started to relax. I was one stop away from my dorm room and I could practically feel my soft, silk pillow. Then disaster struck.
The bus came to an unusually long stop and I watched as the bus driver got out of the bus. At first I thought, “Oh he’s probably going on a break, I’ll just walk home,” but before I even got a chance to move, BAM. I was trapped. He had locked me in the bus from the outside and there was no way to escape. All I could do was wait, wait and wait some more.
Finally, the bus driver returned. He started to speak and I thought that surely he was about to apologize, but the only words that came out of his mouth were, “My last stop is Turner.” I was puzzled that he thought it would be fun to take a 30 minute break right before his last stop. I have never been so infuriated with the SCAD bus system. Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again.
Jeff Smith, head of transportation at SCAD, was contacted five times via e-mail and telephone, but was unavailable for comment as of deadline for this story.
