The SCAD Cinema Circle is hosting a screening of the 1967 hit, “The Graduate” at the Trustees Theater on Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. The film is based on eponymous 1963 novel written by Charles Webb. Directed by Mike Nichols, it received critical appraisal when it was released and featured an award-winning and chart-topping soundtrack by Simon & Garfunkel and Dave Grusin.
“The Graduate” is a part of a select group of films, which have remained popular even with the passage of time. The cast includes a young Dustin Hoffman, Katherine Ross and Anne Bancroft. This coming-of-age film has influenced and inspired subsequent generations by its methods of storytelling.
SCAD Cinema Circle frequently screens popular movies. Caroline Amoni — a first-year painting major from Pensacola, Florida — had attended the Cinema Circle’s screening of Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.”
“It was great and it was even better because it was free to SCAD students,” said Amoni. “A lot of people came out for the ‘Pulp Fiction’ screening and it was coming together of sorts for us students.”
As Amoni said, the event is free to SCAD ID holders. Popcorn, soda and other snacks can be purchased at the concession stand. If for any reason, you cannot make it to the screening of “The Graduate,” the SCAD Cinema Circle has screenings planned for the coming weeks as well. “Mad Max: The Road Warrior” (1981) is scheduled for screening on May 2, followed by “Bullitt” (1968) on June 13.
