This Jan. 30–31, Allure helped students welcome some of the best and biggest in beauty to SCAD Savannah. SCAD launched the Business of Beauty and Fragrance BFA in Fall 2018. The industry is growing and along with it, so is SCAD Beauty. Welcome to Beauty Unlocked: SCAD x Allure, the annual Film Festival equivalent for those of us who love a good complexion.

To start off the Beauty Unlocked event, industry professionals from leading brands around the world discussed the ever-changing industry and how companies and consumers alike are “Disrupting the Beauty Scene.” Guests for this panel included: Angelica Munson of Shiseido Company, Limited, Patrick O’Keefe of e.l.f Beauty, Jana Barocas of Roblox and moderator Dianna Singh of Allure magazine.

Getting the hype up before Friday’s main events, Korean American drag superstar, Kim Chi, took us through “New Wave Beauty” moderated by editor-in-chief of Allure, Jessica Cruel. Kim Chi spoke to the next generation of beauty innovators about her journey into the industry, finding a target audience, and how drag, social media and networking connections helped launch her brand onto the map.

Following the opening events, a selection of beauty brands joined students in May Poetter Gallery for company presentations. Students from all majors got insight into the creative approach, workflow, expectations and career opportunities available at each of these notable companies: Estée Lauder, Case Agency, APR Corporation, Blonde Agency, Rare Beauty, L’Oréal, Roblox and The Doux.

Beauty Unlocked brings networking to a new level. Along with wonderful panels and presentations, students can apply for one-on-one portfolio reviews with any company that attends the event. If you are a Business of Beauty and Fragrance student, studying in a similar industry such as Fashion, or hoping to join the industry from another applicable field, ready your portfolio and resume. This annual event will be back, and industry experts will be looking for fresh and unique student talent.

If you missed this great opportunity from SCAD x Allure keep an eye out for next year’s event dates. Additionally, a lot of the company presentations highlighted their internship opportunities. Check out their websites and career pages to see if there is a fit for your expertise to be shared within the beauty world.
