Volunteers sought to brighten Memorial children’s unit

SCAD students will use their artistry to add cheer to Memorial Health’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit during a Nov. 23 volunteer event.

The office of student involvement is seeking student volunteers to paint themed art on glass doors and windows in the hospital’s children’s area.

“The children who stay in that unit have to be there for a longer period, so most of the time their families stay there with them,” said Nick Oji, assistant director of student involvement. “The project is to engage the children and their families in making the rooms feel more like a home away from home.”

Student artists will paint princesses, castles, superheroes and more on the hospital windows and glass doors, Oji said.

The volunteer event will run 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23. Buses will transport students to the hospital from the SCAD student center starting at 10:30 a.m.

Interested students may simply show up on the day of the event, but participants are strongly encouraged to register online at the registration website.
