Worth It: “Top Gear” on BBC America

By Tiffany Cullen

Every week on the BBC America channel, true happiness can be found in the form of snide remarks and enthusiastic automotive knowledge. With more than 20 years of broadcast experience, Jeremy Clarkson hosts the greatest television show ever created for car lovers – “Top Gear.”

Along with James May and Richard Hammond, also known as Hamster, “Top Gear” airs weekly with new episodes of celebs competing for speedy bragging rights, news on the latest autos from around the globe, breathtaking stunts including blowing up unworthy cars, Clarkson’s stinging banter and of course, the Stig.

What is the Stig? Or rather who is the Stig? That is one of television’s greatest secrets. No one knows who the Stig is or where he or she came from.

The Stig is better known as one of the greatest drivers to ever grace a racetrack. No matter what type of car, the Stig can make it perform at top speeds.

The hosts themselves put new and classic cars through their paces to find out which ones are worth the sticker price and which ones are not. Often, the trio accesses limited edition and specialty super cars only afforded by the super-wealthy.

In the second episode of season five, Clarkson test-drove a Ferrari Enzo – a $500,000 vehicle. In episode five of season five, Richard Hammond devised an alternative racing series to Formula One, the mini van or people movers racing series.

Every show is filled with hilarious auto critiques, valuable information and sidesplitting antics. Whether you are a major car enthusiast or not, “Top Gear” is definitely worth it.
