If you have tried the zero waste lifestyle, you might have discovered that shopping becomes a little more difficult than browsing through Target, adding items to your cart and bagging them in bags at checkout. Instead, you have to bring your own tote bag and reusable containers. And you have to find stores where you can buy groceries in bulk.
To make your search a little easier, here are three stores located in Savannah that offer sustainable products and bulk groceries.
Brighter Day Natural Foods
Brighter Day is an independently owned food store close to Forsyth Park. It was opened in 1978 and has since been providing Savannah with organic foods. The store comes with an organic deli inside, which offers fresh sandwiches, juices and smoothies.
Brighter Day also has a bulk section, where you can fill your groceries into bags or containers brought from home. The best way to carry and store long-lasting food, such as rice, flour and pasta, are glass containers or jars, so don’t forget to save old jars.
Lite Foot Company
This zero-waste store doesn’t have a traditional storefront. Instead, they sell most of their zero-waste products online or at pop-up stores around Savannah. On their website, you can find a list of events they will attend in the fall. You can also order items online and pick them up in person.
Lite Foot Company offers all kinds of zero-waste household products, such as wooden brushes, compost filters or cleaning tabs. So if you want to buy pre-made cleaning supplies that are still zero waste, Lite Foot Company is your place to go.
Savannah Refillery
If you have never heard of the word “refillery” before, here is a quick definition: a place where you can refill items (like dish soap or all-purpose cleaner) in a reusable container. At Savannah Refillery, you can bring your own container, purchase one or pick one up for free at their jar library.
You can find Savannah Refillery at their refill station on Skidaway Road in Sandfly or at their online shop. They also offer local deliveries, which you can order on their website. You can also get your household items refilled at markets in the Savannah area. You can find their market calendar on their website.
