Free rides and a race to city hall on Thursday

By Myrriah Gosset

Chatham Area Transit will be participating in Dump the Pump Day by giving free bus rides this Thursday.

Along with the no-fare bus rides there is also going to be a Dump the Pump Challenge, a race from midtown to City Hall starting at 8:30 a.m. between the bus, cars and bikes.

The contestants will start at the 12 Oaks Plaza on Abercorn Street and will end at City Hall on Bay Street. The contestants must obey all traffic laws, along with having to park correctly as well. The car must be in a parking garage, the bike on a bike rack, and the bus must be at the bus stop.

Dump the Pump activities are done to help promote alternative modes of transportation and are sponsored by the City of Savannah, the Savannah Bicycle Campaign, and Coastal Commuters, among others.
