Editor’s note: The QEP submissions deadline has been extended to Monday, Aug. 4. To read more, refer to our story: College extends QEP deadline.

SCAD has received its regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1983. In order to renew its accreditation for 2010, SCAD must adhere to two major components: the Compliance Certification report and the Quality Enhancement Plan.

The Compliance Certification report is a set of standards, such as curriculum, administration and a goal of higher education, that SCAD must adhere to in order to be reaccredited. Dr. Joseph Hoey heads this portion of the reaffirmation of accreditation process.

Dr. Edward Dupuy, dean of graduate studies, heads the QEP portion. “The Compliance Certification report is a look back. The Quality Enhancement Plan is a look forward,” he says. “It is the creation of a significant project designed to enhance student learning. The general theme of the project is collaboration, so right now, I and the other members of the board of directors are asking students, faculty, and staff to send their ideas for the project.”

In order to send in suggestions, you can email them to qep@scad.edu or log on to MySCAD and clicking the QEP Suggestions Form link in the MySCAD channel “Preparing for SACS 2010” under the My Campus tab. All suggestions must be received by July 31.

All that’s needed is the title of your topic suggestion and a short description of what your suggestion is about. Suggestions will be included with others from across the college for a review and comment process later in the summer.

Dupuy urges everyone to contribute a topic. “This is going to make an impact on the future of SCAD. This plan will become part of the fabric of our campus. We recognize the importance of peer input and want everyone to participate.”
