Each year on the first Sunday in February, hundreds of museums across the state of Georgia participate in Super Museum Sunday, offering free admission and special virtual tours. All kinds of institutions participated: historic sites, house museums, art museums, and marine science centers. This event showcases the history of Georgia and is for locals and tourists alike. Chatham County has the most participating sites, including the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, Davenport House Museum, the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum, and our very own SCAD Museum of Art.
Organized by the Georgia Historical Society, Super Museum Sunday has been going on for decades. The Georgia Historical Society is responsible for collecting, examining, and teaching Georgia history. They research figures from Georgia’s history, house artifacts, and care for rare books. They are open to the public for research purposes and free to visit on Super Museum Sunday!
