Cheaper alternatives to beach bag essentials

By Augusta Statz

Have you ever seen those articles where a celebrity will dish on what’s inside her beach bag? The items that are inside are always too expensive for anyone else to have though, right? Well, at least for me, they are. That’s why I am going to show what’s inside my beach bag—which is definitely more affordable.

Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Sunscreen

I love this brand of sunscreen because it has a nice scent. I hate the smell of regular sunscreen, and this sunscreen has a tropical coconut scent that reminds me of the beach. I would recommend this to anyone. It is good for even my sensitive skin and only costs about $7.99.

Hawaiian Tropic Shimmer Effect Lotion

This lotion is great because it allows you to shimmer, highlighting your tan, without being a self tanner. You can buy sunscreen with the shimmer built in, or buy just the shimmer lotion without the sunscreen, like I did. It highlights my tan and is great for the beach and even after the beach. The scent can’t be beat—coconut papaya. It costs around $7.

Burt’s Bees Sun Protecting Lip Balm

I love Burt’s Bees without the SPF, but on the beach, that just won’t do. So, in my beach bag I always have Burt’s Bees Sun Protecting Lip Balm either with SPF 8 or 15, whichever I can find. This is a great way to keep your lips moisturized and safe from the sun. It costs around $6.

Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner

Having your makeup run on the beach is no fun. I recommend using Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner. It comes in a range of colors, from black to sapphire. This is great if you don’t want to wear a ton of makeup on the beach, but just need a little pick me up, so to speak. This eyeliner will last for your entire stay at the beach. It costs $5.47 at Walmart.

Scünci Light and Soft Nylon Bands

I have thick, curly hair and these hair bands tame even my wild locks. They are great for all types of hair, I would imagine (if they work for even my hair, they must work for everyone’s). They don’t break easily and keep hair in place longer than other brands, in my experience. They cost around $3 for a pack of 12.

Vinegar

I keep vinegar in my bag because it removes the stinging sensation from jellyfish stings. This is a great alternative to peeing on the sting, which I’ve heard that some people use as a remedy.

Now, you know what’s in my beach bag. Don’t forget to grab a towel and sunglasses, and enjoy your trip to the beach with these cheap beach bag essentials in tote!
