College Security Report Feb. 7-14, 2011
February 7
2 p.m. — A student reported to security that her laptop was missing from Eichberg Hall. The student stated that she left the laptop in the studio at 10 p.m. on Feb. 6 and the laptop was missing when she returned at 6 a.m. the next day. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
2 p.m. — A person unrelated to SCAD reported to security that he accidently damaged a SCAD vehicle parked on Bull Street. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
6:50 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident on Fahm Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report. No injuries were reported.
8:35 p.m. — A student reported to security that she was receiving unwanted text messages from a former student. She requested to speak with an on-call counselor regarding the situation. Security took the students contact information and passed it along to the counselor.
February 8
No activity reported.
February 9
1:45 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Eckburg Hall. Sonitrol was notified and stated that the phone line had gone down. The alarm reset itself.
1:02 p.m. — A student reported to security that someone stole a clarinet from her unlocked vehicle between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Feb. 2 while the vehicle was parked off campus. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
7:39 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Arnold Hall. The student stated that she locked the bike to the bike rack on the 35th Street side of the building at 4:30 p.m. and that she noticed it missing about 3 hours later. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
7:50 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
February 10
10:45 a.m. — A student reported to security that she tripped and fell on a step while leaving Barnard Village. EMS responded to the scene and suggested that the student go to the hospital for x-rays. The student declined EMS transportation and stated that she would have a friend drive her to the emergency room.
4 p.m. — A student reported to security that $1,350 worth of personal property had been removed from his vehicle while it was parked at 36th and Habersham streets sometime between noon on Feb. 4 and noon on Feb. 6. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the student’s dorm and issued a crime report.
3 p.m. — An on-call counselor requested that security transport her and a student to Memorial University Medical Center.
8:09 p.m. — Security discovered that the gate opening on the north side of Dyson House was unsecured. The City of Savannah was informed and security requested that they secure the gate.
11:51 p.m. — A SCAD employee requested security respond to Oglethorpe House. The employee smelled marijuana but security was unable to detect anything.
February 11
12:20 a.m. — A student reported to security that two dogs attacked her while she was walking on the railroad tracks behind Gulfstream Center. Her roommate transported the student to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
1:15 a.m. — A student reported to security that his bike tire had been stolen while his bike was locked to the bike rack at Pulaski House. The student did not wish to file a report with Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.
3:52 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they had a student detained at the BP station on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The student appeared intoxicated and was refusing to pay for his cab ride from downtown. Security transported the student to his dorm and informed the resident director of the situation.
5:13 p.m. — A student notified security that he had been injured at Hamilton hall. The student stated that hot lamps burned him during a lighting demonstration on the day before. He transported himself to the SCAD clinic with first- and second-degree burns on his face.
February 12
12:54 a.m. — A student reported to security that she misplaced her phone somewhere in Turner House.
3:05 a.m. — Security discovered two men sleeping in a vehicle behind the Student Center. The men stated that they were not SCAD students. While questioning the men, the operations manager smelled marijuana and beer. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and arrested both individuals.
12 p.m. — A student reported to security that someone had damaged and stolen parts of her school project while it was being stored on the shelves near the shed area by Eichberg Hall.
12:50 p.m. — Security observed two men attempting to steal a bicycle from Abercorn Terrace. The individuals fled when approached by security, leaving the bicycle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene, but could not find the two men.
7:50 p.m. — Security responded to a “fire” alarm at Boundary Village. The system reset itself prior to security arriving.
February 13
12:40 a.m. — Security responded to a water leak in a room in Weston House. Maintenance and ABM Janitorial Services were notified.
10:05 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Pulaski House involving a student with stomach pains. The student was transported to the hospital via yellow cab.
February 14
11:05 a.m. — A SCAD employee reported to security that a student was being rude and disrespectful while checking equipment out of the cage area. The employee also stated that the student refused to leave when he was asked to do so. Security responded but the student departed prior to security’s arrival.
4:35 p.m. — Security discovered a broken pipe gushing water near the fence at Anderson Hall. Security notified maintenance.
6:12 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Arnold Hall. The student stated that she locked the bike to the bike rack 5 p.m. and noticed it missing around 6 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
7 p.m. — A SCAD professor reported to security that a female student had been rushed to the hospital by another student. The professor stated that the female student cut her hand on the sink in the Wallin Hall woman’s bathroom after the sink fell from the wall. Security informed the resident director and the on-call manager.
