College Security Report: Jan. 14-15, 2009

Jan. 14

5 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen her purse while she was at The Rail Bar downtown on Jan. 12. She said she left her purse on a table in the bar and walked outside for 10 minutes. When she returned to the table, her purse was gone. She stated that she did not want the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department to respond to take a report since the only contents of her purse were $1, her room key and some makeup. She needed a security report to get a new room key.

11:31 p.m. — Security received an anonymous phone call stating that there were two men sitting in an SUV at Montgomery Hall smoking marijuana. The caller also stated that there was no SCAD sticker on the vehicle. Dispatch immediately called the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and asked for a cruiser to drive by the area. An operations manager met the police at Montgomery Hall, but no vehicle matching the description was found.

Jan. 15

12:22 a.m. — A SCAD student refused to leave Wallin Hall when security informed him that the building was closing for the evening. An operations manager responded to the scene and the student departed when the manager asked him to leave.

3:59 a.m. — Security discovered the external recycling center door at Arnold Hall to be unsecured. A walk-through was conducted and security secured the door.

7:50 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had cut the top of her convertible and had taken an iPod and power cord from her vehicle that was parked in the Oglethorpe House overflow parking lot. She said that she had parked the vehicle at 9:20 p.m. Jan. 14 and she noticed the theft when she returned to the vehicle at 7:40 a.m. Jan. 15. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

11:12 a.m. — Security was informed of graffiti damage on the front of Lucas Theatre. Security responded to the scene and took pictures of the damage.

11:25 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Arnold Hall involving a SCAD student and a non-SCAD individual. No injuries were reported. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

3:15 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Barnard and Broughton streets involving a SCAD-owned vehicle driven by a SCAD employee and a non-SCAD individual. No injuries were reported. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:47 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm
