College Security Report Nov. 8-16, 2010

November 8

12:44 a.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm at Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

3:34 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

3:41 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Morris Hall. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

4:27 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

10:23 p.m. — Three students reported to security that they had been mugged at Barnard and Harris streets while walking from the Lucas Theatre to Forsyth House. The students stated that they were approached by a man who told them to place their purses on the ground and walk away. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

November 9

2:30 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call involving an ill student at Turner House. EMS responded to the scene and it was determined that the student did not need to be transported. The student stated that they would go to the SCAD clinic in the morning.

3:35 p.m. — A student reported to security that her camera was missing from Bergen Hall. The student stated that she left the camera on the third floor of Bergen near Studio 3 at 7 p.m. the day before and discovered it missing at midnight on the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.

5:29 p.m. — A student reported to security that she accidentally damaged another vehicle while attempting to park. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

November 10

7:40 a.m. — A student reported to security that he had been struck by the mirror of a passing vehicle while walking on Turner Street. The car did not stop and the student was not injured so he did not report the incident. Later in the day he noticed his laptop had been damaged by the accident. He reported the incident to Savannah-Chatham Metro Police who then issued a crime report number.

10:30 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident involving an Allied Barton car and a student vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

11:10 a.m. — Security responded to a “door” alarm at Habersham Hall. It was determined that an employee from the city water department set off the alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

11:30 a.m. — Security was notified of an off-campus vehicle accident involving students. There were no injuries. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

November 11

10:34 a.m. — Security assisted with the transportation of a student to Coastal Harbor Medical Center at the request of the on-call counselor.

5:12 p.m. — A resident director reported to security that he smelled marijuana near the fence on the south side of Weston House. He also claimed to have observed two students on the other side of the fence. Security responded to the scene and an investigation discovered a hole in the fence. Maintenance was informed and extra patrols were conducted until repairs could be made. The two students observed by the resident director were no0t located.

4:06 p.m. — Security responded to an evacuation at Jen Library. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and Savannah Fire evacuated the building due to a natural gas leak in the alley behind Quiznos. At 5:26 p.m. the leak had been capped and police allowed the students and staff to reenter.

9 p.m. — A student notified security that she cut her finger while working on a project. The cut was very minor and security supplied a bandage to the student.

November 12

8:18 p.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police reported to security that they found an unsecured bike at West Jones and Boundary streets. The bike was confirmed to belong to A SCAD student. The owner of the bike could not be contacted and the bike was delivered to dispatch.

November 13

9 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Arnold Hall. The alarm silenced and reset itself prior to security arriving on site.

6:38 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Dyson House. A student stated that she felt sick and light headed. A resident director arranged for a taxi to transport the student to the hospital.

November 14

1:22 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they had been called out to a noise complaint at East Jones Street. Police discovered a number of underage SCAD students drinking at a house party. One student was arrested for attempting to flee the scene, but the others were allowed to leave. The on-call manage was notified.

5:45 a.m. — A SCAD parent called security and stated that her daughter had become stranded in Canada during a layover from Hong Kong to Jamaica. The student had no money and no Canadian Visa. Security took all of the parents information and then notified the on-call manager.

8:11 p.m. — A student  notified security that her bike had been stolen near Bull and Broughton streets. The student stated that she locked the bike at 5 p.m. and she noticed it missing when she returned at 8:46 p.m. the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

November 15

12:22 a.m. — Security responded to the smell of smoke at Eichberg Hall. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that there was a smoldering cigarette under the Eichberg walkway. The cigarette was extinguished without further incident.

6:45 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from a street sign near Gordon Hall. The student stated that she locked the bike at 2:20 p.m. and the bike was gone when she returned at 4:20 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

7:10 p.m. — A student reported to security that someone had stolen the rear light off of her bicycle while it was locked at Dyson Lab. The student did not wish to file a report with Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.

9:10 p.m. — A SCAD parent contacted dispatch and stated that his daughter was having a problem with her roommate being loud while she was trying to study. Security contacted the resident advisor who stated that she would handle the situation.

10:25 p.m. — A student contacted dispatch and requested to speak with the on-call counselor. Security called the counselor and passed on the student’s contact information.

11:35 p.m. — A student reported to security that  his impact drill was missing from Alexander Hall. The student stated that he had last seen the drill at 4 p.m. The student did not wish to file a report with police and stated that he would check and see if anyone else may have picked the drill up.

November 16
