Let’s face it. Winters can be brutal on your skin. With the cold weather, I have recently become interested in how to keep my skin moisturized due to the cold conditions.
I have been researching some ways to keep my skin moisturized, and these are the ones I have found that have been helping me:
Shorten showers and decrease temperature
Even though hot showers feel great in the wintertime, through my research, I have found that they are not great at moisturizing your skin. In fact, the hot water dehydrates skin. By taking shorter showers with water that is lukewarm instead of steaming hot, it will help to lock in your skin’s moisture.
Use mild soaps
Apparently, heavily scented soaps and body washes are doing your skin more harm than good. They are said to strip your skin of essential oils. By using mild soaps, that are either lightly scented or unscented, it is easier to keep the essential oils.
Obviously, moisturize more
Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize. It doesn’t matter what you are using: lotion, mineral oil and even hair conditioner all help to keep your skin moisturized in the winter.
Also, exfoliate
A good body scrub can help to get rid of any dead, dry skin. It’s good to exfoliate at least once a week. Doing this, along with moisturizing will help the new skin to stay moisturized. You’ll find that the more you exfoliate in combination with the moisturizing, the less dry skin you’ll have each week.
These simple tips have helped to keep my skin moisturized in the harsh winter weather. I hope that the tips will be useful to you, too.
